Asante Kotoko has begun discussions to bring back Charles Kwablan Akonnor as head coach for the 2025/26 season, according to kickgh.com.
This follows the dismissal of Prosper Narteh Ogum, with the club naming former player Abdul Karim Zito as interim head coach until the end of the current season. Zito has been tasked with securing both the Ghana Premier League and FA Cup titles before the season’s conclusion.
However, as the season draws to a close, reports suggest that Kotoko is already in talks with Akonnor, who previously coached the club from 2018 to 2019. Negotiations are said to be in the early stages, with both sides yet to reach a final agreement.
In the meantime, Kotoko reached the FA Cup final over the weekend, defeating Berekum Chelsea 1-0 in the semifinals at TNA Park.
The team’s focus now shifts to the Ghana Premier League, where they will face Dreams FC at Baba Yara Stadium this weekend in their Matchday 31 clash.
