Asante Kotoko open talks to sign Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi

Asante Kotoko have reportedly begun discussions to sign Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi as the Porcupine Warriors intensify efforts to strengthen their squad ahead of the new football season.

The Ghana international is said to be one of Kotoko’s key transfer targets, with the club exploring the possibility of securing his services when his current contract with Hearts of Oak expires.

Although negotiations between the two parties are ongoing, no agreement has been reached and the proposed transfer has not yet been finalised. However, there is growing confidence that a deal could be completed if both sides successfully agree on personal terms and other contractual details.

Agbasi has established himself as one of the Ghana Premier League’s dependable goalkeepers in recent seasons. His excellent shot-stopping ability, commanding presence in the penalty area and calmness under pressure have made him one of the country’s highly-rated custodians.

His consistent performances at club level also earned him recognition with the Black Stars, where he is currently part of Ghana’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 28-year-old is serving as one of the national team’s goalkeepers as Ghana prepares for its Round of 32 showdown against Colombia.

For now, Agbasi’s immediate attention remains on national team duties, with any decision regarding his club future expected after Ghana’s World Cup campaign comes to an end.

Should the transfer be completed, it would rank among the biggest domestic moves of the current transfer window, given the fierce rivalry between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko. Direct transfers between the two traditional rivals are relatively uncommon and often generate significant attention among football supporters across the country.

Kotoko are believed to be keen on reinforcing their goalkeeping department with an experienced and proven performer, and Agbasi fits the profile the club is looking for ahead of the upcoming campaign.

While supporters await further developments, negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks. Until an agreement is officially reached and announced, Agbasi remains a Hearts of Oak player, with both clubs yet to confirm any completed transfer.

If the move eventually materialises, it could become one of the defining transfer stories of the Ghanaian football offseason, with the experienced goalkeeper set to make a high-profile switch across one of the country’s greatest football rivalries.
