Asante Kotoko kicked off their pre-season campaign with a resounding 8-0 victory over lower-tier side Arthur Football Academy at the Adako Jachie training ground in Kumasi.
The Porcupine Warriors, led by their new recruits, dominated the game from start to finish, with Albert Amoah scoring twice in the first half. Youngster Peter Amidu Acquah and new signing Saaka Dauda added the third and fourth goals respectively, with Baba Yahaya completing the first half scoring with a fifth goal.
The second half saw winger Bernard Somuah Sarpong scoring the sixth goal, followed by Sudanese striker AbdoelKarem AbdoelRahman Yoouef Yagoub scoring the seventh. Trialist Victor Asamoah rounded off the scoring with the eighth goal.
The friendly match was significant as it precedes Kotoko’s upcoming clash against Medeama on Friday, August 16, 2024, which will mark the grand opening and handover of the new Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium, a 12,000-seater ultra-modern facility financed by Gold Fields.
The match provided an opportunity for the coaching staff to assess the team’s fitness levels, tactics, and overall performance. It also gave the newly recruited players a chance to showcase their skills and impress the coaching staff.
With this convincing win, Asante Kotoko will look to build on their momentum ahead of their next match.
