Asante Kotoko’s Ugandan import Steven Mukwala reveals the biggest challenge he’s facing in Kumasi

Steven Dese Mukwala, the Ugandan International, has expressed his struggles with adapting to Ghanaian cuisine during his time with Asante Kotoko in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.

Despite making a positive start in immersing himself in Ghanaian culture, Mukwala has encountered a significant challenge during his tenure at Kotoko – adjusting to the local diet.

Since his arrival in Ghana in 2022 and joining the former Ghana Premier League champions, Mukwala has contributed to their success, helping them secure a top-four position in the recently concluded 2022/23 GPL campaign.

In his debut season in Ghana’s top-flight football, the forward impressively netted over 10 goals for Kotoko.

Sharing his experiences during his stay in Ghana with Asante Kotoko TV, the former Vipers SC goal scorer openly discussed the difficulties he faces, particularly regarding food and the climate, which have placed him in a somewhat uncomfortable situation.

“The only challenge I face in Ghana is basically from the food point – the ‘pepper’ because I don’t take pepper so that is really a challenge,” he told the club’s media.

“On climate, the sun is too scorchy in Ghana but this season, I am ready for everything and ready for the challenge”

Nonetheless, the 24-year-old player remains optimistic that over time, he will overcome this situation.

Steven Mukwala emphasized his determination and further added that while he aims to swiftly adapt, he is focused on enhancing his performance in the upcoming 2023/24 football season. His goal is to contribute to Asante Kotoko’s pursuit of clinching the GPL title as part of their targeted achievements.

“I will do better than I did last season and improve on myself and everything so to ensure that this season becomes a better for me and Kotoko,” he concluded.
