Former Black Stars head coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, has blamed the handlers of AshantiGold for their mismanagement of the club leading to their demotion to Division Two.
The club were found guilty of match manipulation in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League game 34 against Inter Allies. The investigation saw both teams suffer demotion from their respective leagues at the end of the 2021/22 season.
Speaking to Akoma FM, the former Hearts coach expressed his dissatisfaction with the way the club has been managed in recent years.
“I felt sad when I heard about AshGold case, not because I have coached them, but I once played and when returned to coach I was extremely happy,” he said.
“But today, it is sad that one of the best clubs to have great facilities and should not go down with all these facilities. Unfortunately, AshGold has been mismanaged and the people in administration should answer questions.
“It’s really sad AshGold is going down like this.”
The club will play in Ghana’s Division Two during the 2022/23 season.
