Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has hailed Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey as one of the best midfielders in the English Premier League.
Martinez’s assessment came after Partey’s impressive performance for Arsenal in their 2-0 away win against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Partey, who starred for Arsenal at Villa Park, scored a crucial goal that sealed the win for the Gunners. The goal was made possible after Martinez’s costly error, allowing Partey’s shot to slip through his fingers and give Arsenal a two-goal lead.
The Ghanaian midfielder’s goal was a sweet victory for Arsenal, considering their double loss to Aston Villa last season. Martinez praised Partey’s shot, saying he didn’t know it was a shot from the midfielder until he raised his head after the ball went in.
“Tried my best to save it. I didn’t know it was a shot from Partey until I raised my head after the ball went in. He’s one of the best midfielders in the league,” Martinez said in an interview.
Partey’s goal was his first Premier League goal since March 2023, and he’ll be eager to add more to his tally in upcoming matches. The former Atletico Madrid star struggled last season due to injury setbacks, but his performance against Aston Villa showed that he’s back to his best form.
