The 2023-24 Tanzanian Ligi Kuu Bara was decided yesterday with three games to spare after Young Africans won 3-1 at Mtibwa Sugar.
Charles Ilanfya gave the home side a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute. Mtibwa Sugar was determined to not let Yanga celebrate their title at their home but an own goal in the 67th minute by Kombo equalised for Young Africans.
Kennedy Musonda and Cement Mzize scored in the 72nd and 80th minutes respectively to ensure a great win for Miguel Angel Gamondi’s Yanga.
30-year-old Ghanaian forward Augustine Okrah won his 4th league title in his career with Yanga on Monday. He has already won a league title in Ghana with Asante Kotoko (2011-12), Sudanese clubs Al Merreikh (2015) and Al Hilal (2017).
It was Yanga’s third league triumph in succession and the 27th in total making them the undisputed kings in Tanzania. Their rivals Simba SC have won 22 league titles.
