Avram Grant shared his thoughts on the 1-1 draw against DR Congo on Wednesday night in San Pedro with the press after the game. Zambia scored through Kings Kangwa in the 23rd minute with Yoane Wissa equalising 4 minutes later for the Leopards of DR Congo.
When quizzed about his thoughts on the game, the 68-year-old Avram Grant said, “I think It was a tough game for both teams, they pressed us well.
“We couldn’t play our game with the ball. We defended well except for the goal, honestly for me, it was an unnecessary goal. It was a great game and the players fought very well for us”, explained Avram Grant.
Zambia was outplayed as DR Congo looked physically and tactically better than the Chipolopolo. When Avram Grant, the former Chelsea manager, was asked about what different thing he could have done for Zambia to win the game, he was honest in his assessment.
“We scored and we were winning 1-0 and quickly they scored.
“To be honest, We couldn’t create many chances so I cannot complain”, added Grant.
The Chipolopolo will play against Tanzania in their next game and Avram Grant wants Zambia to come stronger against the Taifa Stars.
“Always we want to win, we will watch the game and see what to do so that we can come stronger in the next game, said Avram Grant.
On Zambia’s chances of qualifying for the knockout phase, the Israeli gaffer was fair as he thinks Zambia is the third-best team on paper.
“On paper D.R Congo and Morocco are much better than us but we will do our best”, concluded Grant
