The next big one to decide to play for the Leopards of DR Congo is Ipswich Town’s 26-year-old centre-back Axel Tuanzebe.
Axel Tuanzebe was born in Bunia, DR Congo, but raised in England. The right centre-back spent 11 years in the famous Manchester United Academy and made 19 senior appearances for the Red Devils.
He has represented England at U19, U20 and U20 levels but has not played for the Three Lions and hence necessary to switch nationality.
On Friday, his switch was finally confirmed as he was spotted with DR Congo’s head coach Sebastian Desabre being announced as a new player for DR Congo.
The former Aston Villa defender was delighted as he held aloft the DR Congo jersey with Desabre.
He is expected to make his official debut in June when DR Congo travels to play the Lions of Terranga in Senegal for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
