Black Satellites captain Aziz Misbau was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) after an outstanding performance in Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Nigeria in the opening match of the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship on Thursday.
Playing at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Aziz opened the scoring in style, firing a thunderous strike into the roof of the net to give Ghana an early lead. His goal set the tone for what proved to be a fiercely competitive encounter between two of West Africa’s traditional powerhouses.
But it wasn’t just his goal that made the difference. Aziz impressed throughout the match with his leadership, vision, and tactical awareness. He played with a maturity beyond his years, breaking up play with timely interceptions, controlling the tempo from midfield, and motivating his teammates in a game that demanded physical and mental strength.
Even after Nigeria equalized in the 82nd minute through Abdullahi Muhammed’s header from a corner, Aziz remained composed and continued to rally his team, earning loud cheers from the home fans for his relentless drive and energy.
His MVP award is well-deserved and highlights his growing importance in coach Desmond Ofei’s U20 squad. As Ghana prepares for their must-win final Group A match against Benin on Wednesday, July 16, all eyes will be on their inspirational captain to once again rise to the occasion and lead the Black Satellites into the semi-finals.
