Iddrisu Baba was forced to leave Wednesday’s victory over Atletico Madrid due to a muscle problem, according to Real Mallorca coach Javier Aguirre.
The midfielder told the Mexican that, contrary to what had been assumed, he had not suffered a significant tear, but that he would still need to consult a doctor to ascertain the full extent of the damage.
“Baba has a muscle issue. I asked him because he didn’t enter the locker room very long and I asked him if he felt the tear was very big, but he told me no. We have to wait for the evaluation and see what the doctor [says] because it is rare for Baba to get bored. He must have something because that boy is very brave,” Aguirre said after the game.
Iddrisu has reportedly been selected for Ghana’s yet-to-be-announced final World Cup roster, therefore the injury occurs at a critical time.
The Mallorca midfielder has played for the Black Stars under Otto Addo in both of their friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua.
Although it is unknown how severe the injury is, Otto Addo must choose his team by November 13 anyway.
Just seven days before they take on Portugal on November 24 to kick off their World Cup campaign, Ghana plays Switzerland in a friendly.
South Korea and Uruguay will also play host to Ghana.
