Barcelona identify Chelsea target Nico Williams as top Summer signing from Athletic Club

Athletic Club club star Nico Williams, has emerged as s Summer transfer target for Spanish giants FC Barcelona.

One area that Barcelona are keen to address during the summer transfer window is left wing. There is currently no natural option in Xavi Hernandez’s squad, which has seen the likes of Raphinha, Joao Felix and Ferran Torres utilised there, and as such, a top-level signing is wanted by the sporting department.

In recent days, Barcelona have been strong linked with RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo, who is said to be very open to re-joining the Catalan giants. However, for now at least, he is not a priority, with Sport’s Toni Juanmarti reporting that Nico Williams is the club’s top target to reinforce its left wing position.

Williams is having another excellent season with Athletic Club, and added two more assists to his tally during the 2-0 victory over Getafe on Friday. He would cost €50m, as that is the cost of his contract’s release clause.

There’s no doubt that Williams would be a sensational signing for Barcelona, and at 21, he would be the ideal option for the short and long term. All that remains to see is whether a deal can be done in the summer – it will be tricky because of their ongoing financial woes.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Tottenham, are also interested in signing the promising attacker.
