Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has extended his best wishes to the Black Stars as they prepare for their crucial FIFA World Cup group-stage match against Panama.

In a message of encouragement, Dr. Bawumia urged the team to remain focused, disciplined, and determined as they represent Ghana on the world stage. He described football as a powerful force that unites the nation and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to succeed.

The 2028 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer said:

“Football has always been part of us as a nation. It has always united us, and it brings the world together. As the Black Stars start their journey at the 2026 World Cup, I want to wish them the very best.

“Black Stars, you have done it before, and you can do it again. The nation is behind you, and I am behind you. Go for gold. Go Black Stars, go.”

The Black Stars’ encounter with Panama is seen as a key fixture in their quest to advance beyond the group stage, with supporters across Ghana and the diaspora rallying behind the team.

Mbappé Brace Powers France Past Senegal

France opened their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory over Senegal at the New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford.

Kylian Mbappé starred for the French side, scoring twice as France secured all three points. Bradley Barcola added the other goal, while Michael Olise provided two assists in an impressive creative display.

Senegal created several chances but were unable to capitalize, with Nicolas Jackson hitting the post and Ismaïla Sarr missing a clear opportunity. Teenager Ibrahim Mbaye pulled one back for Senegal in stoppage time, but Mbappé quickly restored France’s two-goal advantage to seal the win.

The result gives France a strong start to their World Cup campaign, while Senegal will be left reflecting on missed opportunities.
