Ghanaian defender Foster Gyamfi has completed a move to Finnish Veikkausliiga club IFK Mariehamn after signing a two-year contract with the Nordic outfit.
The 22-year-old joins the Finnish top-flight side from Ghana Premier League club Bechem United, where he established himself as a dependable member of the Hunters’ defensive unit.
Gyamfi arrives at Mariehamn with previous European experience, having featured for clubs including Esbjerg fB in Denmark and Zbrojovka Brno in the Czech Republic before returning to Ghana, where he continued his development with Bechem United.
The versatile defender expressed his excitement after sealing the move, describing the transfer as an important step in his career.
“I am very happy and grateful to have signed for IFK Mariehamn. This is an exciting opportunity for me and I am really looking forward to this new chapter in my career,” Gyamfi said.
“From everything I have seen and heard, it seems to be a fantastic club and I am looking forward to getting started.”
The Ghanaian also outlined his qualities, highlighting his ability to contribute both defensively and during build-up play.
“I am a left-footed defender who likes to build up the game from the back and at the same time values defensive work. I work hard for the team, love defending and always give my best in every training session and every match,” he added.
Gyamfi played an important role for Bechem United during the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, making 16 league appearances as the Hunters enjoyed a competitive campaign.
His performances convinced IFK Mariehamn to move for his services, with the club’s sporting director and CEO Jimmy Wargh praising his versatility and defensive qualities.
“The idea was that Foster would have been here already in January, but due to various delays, the transfer was instead completed now during the summer window,” Wargh said.
“Foster is a left-footed centre-back who is also comfortable as a left-back. I think we will get a welcome addition to our defence with his arrival.”
Gyamfi will now begin preparations with his new teammates as he looks to establish himself in Finnish football and continue his progression on the European stage.
