Former Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has called on Ghanaians to continue supporting the national team players despite their recent poor run of results.
The Portuguese coach ended his tenure with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Thursday, October 1, just days after the Black Stars suffered a disappointing 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Although Queiroz was hoping to rebuild the team following their struggles at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ghana’s back-to-back AFCON qualifying defeats increased pressure on his position before his departure.
In his farewell statement after parting ways with the GFA, the former Real Madrid manager urged supporters to stand behind the players and help create a positive environment for the team.
“Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them,” Queiroz said.
“The talent and potential are there. With unity, support and the right environment, this generation can achieve great things for Ghana.”
The coach also thanked Ghanaian fans for their passion and encouragement during his time with the Black Stars.
“To the Ghanaian people and all Black Stars supporters, thank you for your passion, support and warmth. I will always carry Ghana with me with respect and affection.”
Queiroz’s exit comes after Ghana started their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign poorly, losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before falling 4-2 to The Gambia in Accra.
The results leave the Black Stars without a point from their opening two Group C matches and at the bottom of the table ahead of their next qualifiers.
