The circumstances surrounding the death of Berekum Chelsea defender Dominic Frimpong have sparked fresh discussions after his father questioned how his son died.
Nana Frimpong alleged that his son was “killed” and not merely a victim of the armed attack on the club’s team bus, claiming there are unanswered questions surrounding the tragic incident.
““My son was not shot; I believe he was killed. There were no signs or evidence of gunshot wounds on his body.
“I believe Berekum Chelsea used my son as a sacrifice in their fight to avoid relegation,” he said in an interview with Fakye TV.
However, the mortuary in-charge at Bibiani Municipal Government Hospital, Mr Nyamekye, has clarified that Dominic Frimpong indeed sustained a gunshot injury, confirming that the player was shot in the forehead.
The 20-year-old defender died after masked gunmen reportedly attacked Berekum Chelsea’s bus while the team was returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture against Samartex in Samreboi.
According to the club, the attackers opened fire as the driver attempted to reverse, forcing players and officials to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
Police have confirmed that Frimpong suffered gunshot wounds and died while receiving treatment, with investigations and a search for the suspects ongoing.
Frimpong joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January and was considered one of the promising young talents in the Ghana Premier League.
