Bernard Terkpetey’s absence from the Black Stars very loud

With goal scoring a visible bane with the Black Stars, the absence of the talented Ludogorets striker has become an issue worth deliberating about. The bulky forward who can be deployed as a winger or center forward especially during his successful stint at Paderborn and his current club has become a notable absentee from the Black Stars despite his impeccable form.

The Former Schalke player was very instrumental in Ludogorets qualification in the qualifying round of the Europa league when he scored a brace against Astana last year. The impressive form of the twenty-six year old forward has gone unnoticed this term in the Parva Liga as he has already registered 7 goals and 3 assist in the Bulgarian topflight.

The snub of the Ghanaian striker for the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast during his rich vein of form took a lot of football fans by surprise. The inclusion of players who were bench warmers in their respective clubs raised a lot of eyebrows in the quality of selection which was eventually evident as the Black Stars crushed out of the tournament with the worst record.

With the current call-up of players into the Black Stars, Antoine Semenyo and Osman Bukari of Bournemouth and Red Star Belgrade respectively are the only strikers who equal the goal tally of Bernard Terkpetey’s rich form for Ludogorets in Europe.

His goal scoring Prowers makes it difficult to understand the rational behind his absence in a team that was characterized with disgrace in the last African Cup of Nations.  Though subjective, its only reasonably to add such a player who has demonstrated such goal scoring abilities to the squad for variations in terms of formation and system of play to access what he brings to the squad.

The longevity offered Jordan Ayew and Inaki Williams despite scoring handful of goals with so much playing opportunities can be given to players who have demonstrated the ability at club level to do same. Bernard Terkpetey has only two appearances to his credit for the Black Stars after his debut for the Black Stars against Egypt in 2017.
