1. Medeama misses three key players in Kumasi
Meadeam SC’s trio Abdul Fatawu Hamid, Jonathan Sowah and Nurudeen Abdulai who replaced Rayo Vallecano’s Abdul Mumin will miss the tough trip to face Asante Kotoko in Kumasi. Augustine Evans Adotey will have to play without these three key players- a centre-back, left-back and a striker who are part of the 25-man squad called up by Chris Houghton for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers’ two games against Madagascar and Comoros.
2. Prosper Narteh Ogum must start picking up points
Kotoko will welcome Medeama and the game will be played under the beautiful floodlight of Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Coming from three straight defeats, words can’t express the immense pressure Prosper Narteh Ogum is under. Asante Kotoko will play against a team that was the first to beat them at the Baba Yara in 2023. A lot is at stake for Prosper Ogum and Asante Kotoko as they bid to win the first game in four and also revenge the 2-0 defeat they suffered at home in March against the Mauve and Yellow.
3. Can Abdul Rahim Bashiru win the vacant head coach position?
Martin Koopman was sacked on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, with Abdul Rahim Bashiru, the assistant coach, appointed as the interim manager. On Tuesday, November 21st, Hearts of Oak will host Accra Lions. Can Rahim Bashiru win and convince the Phobia board to give him the chance?
Hearts of Oak has won 2 out of 10 games, drawn 6 and lost 2. They have the best defence alongside Nsoatreman with both teams having conceded just 5 goals. The Phobian’s problem is goalscoring. Can Bashiru find the right formula to help the team score goals?
4. Karela faces the best duo in the league
Karela is in trouble. After matchday 10, they are two points above the bottom side Heart of Lions, karela has won one, lost three and drawn six- this is how terrible Karela looks at the moment.
At the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, their adopted home, they will face the deadly duo of Isaac Mintah and Emmanuel Gyamfi. The in-from duo has scored a combined 14 goals with Mintah’s 9 leading the top scorer chart. Emmanuel Gyamfi has scored 5 goals and is sharing the second spot with Stephen Amankonah and Saaka Dauda. The duo have scored 13 goals in the last 5 games. How will Karela deal with them?
5. Heart of Lions still searches for their first win
The Kpando-based club remains the only team among the 18 teams yet to record a single victory. Fatawu Salifu and his lads are putting up performances that only merit relegation. They will host Bechem United at the Hohoe Sports Stadium with a win on their mind. Four points separate Heart of Lions and the 15th-placed team, RTU.
6. Another Bono Region Derby in Sunyani
Tano Bofoakwa will host Nsoatreman in another feisty Bono derby. Matches between Bono teams and Bono and Ahafo teams are always great and enjoyable.
Bofoakwa secured a draw at Bechem United last week which was a great result for them. Now, 7th on the table with just one point separating them from the top four, a win for Bofo will move them to the top 4. Maxwell Konadu’s Nsoatreman bounced back to winning ways against RTU after back-to-back defeats against Olympics and Medeama and will be eager to avoid defeat against Tano Bofoakwa.
7. Micheal Osei is under pressure
For the first time at Dun’s Park in Bibiani, Micheal Osei is under pressure as Bibiani Gold Stars and the relegation zone are separated by one point. Dun’s Park, the fortress that has kept Bibiani Gold Stars in the League since their promotion must remain a stronghold as their struggling away from home has not been deciphered.
After five consecutive draws, Bibiani Gold Stars were hammered 3-0 by in-form Aduana Stars. Bibiani Gold Stars, unbeaten at home this season host Nations FC, who is the worst away team in the league as they have lost all their 5 away games at Dun’s Park.
8. The return of Stephen Amankonah is yielding results
After 4 successful seasons with Berekum Chelsea, Stephen Amankonah suffered a very horrible two seasons in Kunasi with Asante Kotoko. The return home was always inevitable as Amankonah has this season scored 5 goals in 9 games for Chelsea. Berekum Chelsea is surprisingly 5 points behind the league leaders Aduana Stars. 4th on the table with 16 points is incredible for Christopher Enning and his men. A home game against Legon Cities at Golden City Park is the perfect one after 3 successive wins for Berekum Chelsea.
9. Can Samartex slay another GPL giant?
Emmanuel Keyekeh’s wonderful free kick condemned Asante Kotoko to a 1-0 defeat at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena. Samartex is on high confidence after that win but remains toothless in away games having lost four and drawn one in 5 away games. A trip to Olympics who are dangerous at the Accra Sports Stadium is a tough task. Nurudeen Amadu’s Samartex is third on the table but must triple their away performance to be able to secure even a point against Oly Dade in Accra.
