1. Asante Kotoko loses at home for the first time since March 2022
Kotoko was undefeated in their last 12 home games at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium since MD23 of the 2022/2023 season when Medeama won by 2-0.
Dreams FC recorded their second win of the season by beating Kotoko 1-0 in Kumasi. A delightful free kick from the 17-year-old Abdul Azziz Issah in the 39th minute was enough to secure Dreams a dream win and spoiled Prosper Ogum’s 46th birthday.
Fabolous has now recorded 2 wins in the last 13 home games spanning from last season. Baba Yara Sports Stadium is no longer the fortress we used to know. Things are gradually falling apart for Prosper Narteh with back-to-back defeats and something ought to be done to save Kotoko’s season.
2. Aduana Stars are showing Champions elements
Aduana Stars have won their last four games, winning two each at home and away. This is how Champions are made in the betPawa Premier League. Consecutive wins and away wins are key to winning any league and Aduana Stars are just doing that. Yaw Acheampong has found the right formula against their last four opponents with Aduana scoring 12 and conceding 5. Isaac Mintah’s scintillating form in this run has been great with the former New Edubease forward netting 6 goals in the last 4 games. A 2-1 victory at the lowly Heart of Lions has helped the Ogya Boys occupy the top of the table.
3. Nations FC on 5 straight away defeats
Kasim Mingle Ocansey is yet to win a single point for Nations FC in their 5 away games so far having lost against Dreams, Berekum Chelsea, Medeama, Great Olympics and Bofoakwa.
The 1-0 defeat at the Sunyani Coronation helped Bofoakwa win their first game in 6 matches and 3 in all. Saaka Dauda’s penalty in the 4th minute has brought back Bofo to winning ways. They are currently 3rd on the league table.
4. Hamza Issah is Martin Koopman’s saviour
Hamzah Issah’s 40th-minute header from Salifu Ibrahim’s corner cancelled Emmanuel Owusu Boakye’s 10th-minute opener for Karela at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale. Martin Koopman bemoaned the lack of goalscorers for Hearts of Oak after a goalless draw at home vs Dreams on MD4. The Dutch gaffer needed someone among his forwards to respond and upstep the Aroras student, Hamzah Issah. The equaliser was his 4th goal in his last 4 games. He has played 5 games and failed to score in his first start against Samartex, he has since then been the hero of the team with Salifu Ibrahim creating some of the chances for him. Long may it continue for Martin Koopman.
5. Bibiani Gold Stars are on a drawing spree
Five consecutive stalemate is a huge concern for Micheal Osei and the entire Bibiani Gold Stars fans. A disappointing 1-1 draw against Accra Lions is a huge cause for concern. Dun’s Park has not been used to tasting defeats recently but has been seeing many draws which means Bibiani Gold Stars are losing enough points at home. Micheal Osei and his warriors must start to turn the draws into wins.
6. Medeama’s defenders step up in Jonathan Sowah’s absence.
Jonathan Sowah was red-carded in Medeama’s 3-1 defeat to Hearts of Oak in Accra on MD8. In his absence against Legon Cities at the El Wak Stadium, centre-back Kofi Asmah and right-back Kamaradini scored in each half to secure a precious 3 points for the Mauve and Yellow. Jonathan Sowah was not missed as the two defenders delivered the goals for Evans Adotey. The defending champions are now 6th on the table with a game in hand with 5 points separating them from the table toppers Nsoatreman who plays against Accra Great Olympics on Monday.
7. Samartex simply can’t do it away from Nsenkyire Park
Nurudeen Amadou has been extremely great when his boys are playing at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena with 12 points won in 4 games. They are on top of the home table. Samartex lost 1-0 at Berekum Chelsea and it is their 4th defeat away from home in 5 matches having secured a point in a 0-0 draw against Hearts of Oak in Accra on MD6.
Samartex looks unbeatable at home but very beatable away from home. 13 points from 9 games is not bad but must start picking up points in their away games if they want to finish in the top 4.
8. Bechem United secured a precious one point at RTU
Bismark K. Mensah is under no pressure for now. The Bechem United gaffer nearly lost his job after a poor start to the season. Unbeaten in 5 now with starmen Augustin Okrah, Emmanuel Avornyo, Samuel Osei Kuffuor and Cephas Mantey all finding their rhythm at the right time. A precious point at RTU will boost their confidence heading into MD10 with a home fixture vs Bofoakwa Tano.
