Bibiani Gold Stars moved closer to the top of the Ghana Premier League standings after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Hearts of Oak in Week 24.
The match was played at Dun’s Park and produced exciting moments for both sides as the title race continues to tighten.
The hosts started the game strongly and took the lead in the 15th minute when Samuel Acheampong found the back of the net.
The early goal gave Bibiani Gold Stars confidence as they pressed for more. Hearts of Oak struggled to break through the home defence, but goalkeeper Benjamin Asare kept his team in the game with several important saves before halftime.
After the break, Hearts of Oak returned with more attacking intent and finally got the equaliser in the 64th minute. Henry Kwaku Boateng scored to level the game and set up a tense final half-hour as both teams searched for the winning goal.
The deadlock was broken late in the game when Augustine Boakye scored in the 90th minute for Bibiani Gold Stars. The late strike sent the home supporters into celebration as the hosts secured all three points in dramatic fashion.
The result leaves Hearts of Oak five points behind the league leaders and without a win in their last two matches since their victory over Asante Kotoko in the Super Clash. The title battle remains open, with only a small points gap separating the top teams as the season progresses.
