The Black Stars, Ghana’s national football team, have received a timely boost ahead of their vital 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR).
Defender Alexander Djiku, who had been absent from initial training sessions due to an arm injury, has now joined the squad. Djiku, an integral part of Fenerbahçe’s defense, suffered the injury during the team’s final match of the season. Fortunately, his recovery has been quick, and he is expected to resume training with the team at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday.
Ghana’s performance in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers has been mixed, with one win and one loss in their opening two matches. The team secured a 1-0 victory over Madagascar in Kumasi, but their progress was stalled by a 1-0 defeat to Comoros in Moroni.
Currently positioned fourth in Group I, the Black Stars face crucial matches ahead. They will play Mali on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Stade 26 Mars in Bamako, with the game kicking off at 19:00. Their subsequent match against CAR is set for Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
