Ghana’s Black Galaxies went down 1-0 to South Africa in an international friendly on Tuesday, in a match that served as preparation for upcoming tournaments.
The encounter allowed South Africa to fine-tune ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, while Ghana assessed their readiness for the 2026 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
Under coach Kasim Mingle, Ghana started strongly, showing discipline and energy in the first half and keeping the hosts from scoring. The opening 45 minutes ended goalless.
South Africa intensified after the break, and in the 56th minute, Sipho Mbule found the net to give the Bafana Bafana the lead. The Black Galaxies responded with several promising attacks, hitting the woodwork twice and being denied by an alert South African goalkeeper.
Despite persistent pressure in the final stages, Ghana could not equalise, and the match ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts.
While the result boosts South Africa’s confidence ahead of AFCON, Ghana can take positives from their performance and build on it as they prepare for crucial competitive fixtures.
