Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams says the Black Maidens are not owed any outstanding bonuses or per diems ahead of their upcoming international competitions.
Adams explained that the Ghana Football Association is responsible for the financial needs of the national Under-17 women’s team during qualification campaigns, while the Sports Ministry takes over when the team reaches an approved major international tournament.
He said the ministry is therefore not currently responsible for payments to the Black Maidens, who are participating in the WAFU B Under-17 Girls Cup.
The team has already secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, marking Ghana’s return to the global competition after missing out following a CAF ban in 2022.
The Black Maidens are also using the ongoing WAFU B competition as part of their preparations for the World Cup. The tournament doubles as a qualifier for the first-ever Under-17 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana opened its WAFU B campaign with an impressive four-nil victory over Burkina Faso and will face Nigeria in their next Group C match on Saturday.
At the World Cup, Ghana have been placed in Group C alongside Brazil, Norway and Canada.
