The Ghanaian coach has expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance after Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Egypt U23 in their friendly match ahead of the Caf U23 African Cup of Nations tournament which will be staged in Morocco later this month.
As part of preparations for the tournament, the Black Meteors played the defending Champions of the tournament in a test game at the Alexandria Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Ghana took the lead after Afriyie Barnieh converted from the penalty spot but the Egyptians fought back and drew level against a Ghana team that had been reduced to 10-men after Zubairu Ibrahim’s red card.
Speaking to Ghanafa.org after the game, Coach Tanko was impressed with his charges and was confident that his team has what it takes to participate in the U23 tournament and secure a slot to participate in the next Olympic Games in Paris.
”I’m very very impressed. It’s not easy to play with 10 against 11 for almost 70 minutes. The boys did well and we will take it from there,” Tanko said.
”I hope that the next game will be better. We are still waiting for the rest of the players that are with the senior national team and that will make us stronger. I’m very very impressed with this performance today.
