Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren says Ghana faces a major test on Tuesday when his side meets the Lionesses of England in an international friendly.
The European champions will host the Queens at St. Mary’s Stadium, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT. Björkegren says the encounter will be one of the most demanding tasks for his team, describing it as a real chance to check their progress against one of the strongest sides in the world.
He noted that the team is “diving into deep waters” as they come up against a highly ranked opponent, but he believes the Queens possess the quality to compete. According to him, such high-level matches are essential because they reveal both strengths and the areas that must improve for Ghana to rise in the FIFA rankings and maintain their status among Africa’s best.
Björkegren added that playing England away will certainly stretch the team, but the experience will be valuable as Ghana continues preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Queens go into the game in good spirits after beating Aston Villa’s women’s side during their buildup.
The friendly forms part of the team’s broader programme aimed at strengthening the squad ahead of next year’s continental tournament.
