“Pay for quality” – Nyaho-Tamakloe urges swift appointment of top-class coach for Black Stars

Former Ghana Football Association chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has called for urgent action in appointing a high-quality head coach to revive the fortunes of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His appeal follows the dismissal of Otto Addo after Ghana’s disappointing March international window, which saw a 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart coming on the back of a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna.

With time running out before the global tournament, Nyaho-Tamakloe stressed that Ghana cannot afford to compromise on quality in its next appointment.

“If the government has the money, they should pay well and go for a top-class coach,” he told Graphic Sports, highlighting the importance of investing in proven expertise.

“Some coaches have the ability to turn teams around quickly,” he added, pointing to the need for immediate impact.

Warning Against Appiah Return

Nyaho-Tamakloe also cautioned against a potential return for former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah, insisting that past challenges should rule out any reappointment.

According to him, even Appiah himself should reject the role if approached, as Ghana must focus on a fresh direction.

Top Names Linked to Black Stars Job

Several high-profile names have already been linked with the vacant position, including former Germany boss Joachim Löw, who led his country to the 2014 World Cup, and experienced South African tactician Pitso Mosimane.

Their potential appointments underline the growing demand for a coach with international pedigree and the ability to stabilise the team quickly.

Focus Shifts to World Cup Preparations

The Ghana Football Association is expected to announce a new coach in the coming days, with preparations already lined up ahead of the tournament.

Ghana will face Mexico and Wales in May as part of their build-up before heading into the World Cup, where they are drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
