Ghana’s Black Satellites rounded off their preparations for the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship, fighting back from a goal down to defeat Semper Fi 2-1 in a friendly match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
Head coach Maxwell Konadu watched his side produce a spirited second-half display, overturning a first-half deficit with two well-taken goals to secure victory in their final warm-up fixture before departing for Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
The friendly provided the technical team with a valuable final opportunity to assess the squad in a competitive setting, while also allowing the players to sharpen their match fitness and tactical cohesion ahead of the sub-regional championship.
Adding to the occasion was the presence of Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, who attended the match and addressed the players after the final whistle.
The GFA boss offered words of encouragement and urged the team to represent the nation with pride as they prepare for another important continental qualifying campaign.
Buoyed by the morale-boosting victory, the Black Satellites are scheduled to depart for Côte d’Ivoire on Friday, where they will compete for regional honours.
Ghana have been drawn in a highly competitive Group B, where they will open their campaign against long-time rivals Nigeria before taking on Burkina Faso and Togo in what is widely regarded as one of the toughest groups in the tournament.
The WAFU B U-20 Championship carries added significance, serving as the qualifying competition for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, which Ghana will host.
