Ghana’s Black Starlets have landed in Côte d’Ivoire to compete in the 2025 WAFU B U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where they will fight for a place at next year’s continental tournament.
The team opens its campaign on Saturday, September 20, against Togo at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro. Kick-off is at 6:00 p.m.
Next, the Starlets face host nation Ivory Coast on Tuesday, September 23 at 6:00 p.m., before concluding their Group A fixtures with a crucial clash against Niger on Friday, September 26 at 3:00 p.m.
This regional tournament serves as the gateway to the 2025 U-17 AFCON, with top-performing teams securing qualification for the continental showpiece.
Head coach Prosper Ogum expressed confidence in his side’s preparations:
“We have had a very productive camp, and the players have shown great commitment. We are going to Côte d’Ivoire determined to compete and make Ghanaians proud,” he said.
The technical team has focused on discipline, teamwork and resilience, with final training sessions planned in Yamoussoukro before Saturday’s opener.
With a rich history in youth football, including two FIFA U-17 World Cup titles, Ghana will be eager to reclaim its dominance on the African stage and book a spot at next year’s U-17 AFCON.
