Black Stars goalkeepers trainer Fatawu Dauda has heaped praise on Ghana international Benjamin Asare, highlighting his focus, humility and willingness to learn as key traits behind his steady rise.

Dauda, who previously guarded the post for Ghana during his playing days, revealed that he maintains close communication with Asare, offering guidance and technical feedback to help sharpen his development at both club and national team levels.

According to the former shot-stopper, mentoring goalkeepers is a responsibility he takes seriously, especially when it comes to players within the Black Stars setup.

“I’ve been in that position before. Because he’s in the team as a Black Stars player, and that’s my department, so anytime they play the game, I get in touch with him, with his goalkeeper coach. We share ideas, we give feedbacks for the way how he can improve as a goalkeeper and as an individual. So I keep advising him to stay focused because…

The Fenerbahce team saw you playing in the Premier League, in the Luka League, and then you were selected. So need to stay focused and then keep doing what you know, to do best.

So I think he’s doing well for himself and for his club. Being a captain, a leader, and then a commander, you know, it’s not easy. For that position, definitely, you know, you need to be criticised if things are not going well. That’s how it should be. But for now, I think he’s staying focused because it’s someone who will listen. He talked to me listening. So he’s a fast learner, he’s coachable. So I’m happy for him. He’s doing well for his club and for himself.”

Dauda emphasised that leadership, especially from the goalkeeping position, comes with heavy responsibility and scrutiny. However, he believes Asare possesses the right mentality to handle pressure and criticism while continuing to grow.

The endorsement from the Black Stars goalkeeper trainer underlines confidence within the national team camp that Asare is on the right path — developing not only as a dependable shot-stopper but also as a mature leader capable of commanding his defence with authority.
