Ghanaian international Baba Iddrisu’s UD Almería have on Saturday been confirmed as the first club relegated from La Liga in the 2023/24 campaign.
The Indálicos have endured a season to forget to date, failing to build on their narrow escape from the drop last time out in any way, shape or form.
All told, the Andalusian outfit have managed just one win from 33, which did not come until the middle of last month at the expense of Las Palmas.
Add to this a hefty 21 defeats, and it should come as little surprise to hear of Almería, on Saturday, being officially sent packing from Spain’s top-flight.
After slipping to a 3-1 downing at the hands of Getafe this afternoon, their paltry tally of 14 points means that Pepe Mel’s troops can no longer mathematically climb out of the drop zone.
With over 100 appearances for Mallorca’s first team, Iddrisu made a move to Almeria on a season-long loan on August 10, 2023, with a buyout clause included in the agreement. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value stands at €2,500,000.
Throughout the ongoing La Liga season, Baba Iddrisu has showcased his consistency and reliability as a defensive midfielder, making 24 appearances for his club.
Meanwhile, Iddrisu, who was on loan at Almeria from Mallorca, is currently negotiating to join American club New England Revolution.
embarked on his Spanish football journey in January 2014 when he joined RCD Mallorca’s youth setup from CD Leganés.
