Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign suffered another blow as they were defeated 2-0 by Sudan at the Martyrs of February Stadium in their matchday four clash.
Coach Otto Addo made only one change to his starting lineup, bringing in Inaki Williams for Jordan Ayew. However, the Black Stars struggled to find their rhythm from the outset and almost conceded early on, with Gideon Mensah’s third-minute effort being blocked.
Sudan’s Abo Eisa came close to opening the scoring in the first half, but his curling shot was expertly tipped away for a corner.
Ghana thought they had broken the deadlock after halftime when Inaki Williams found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
In the 52nd minute, Abo Eisa threatened again, narrowly missing a close-range opportunity. The Falcons of Jediane’s persistence paid off in the 62nd minute when Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud pounced on a defensive error to give Sudan the lead.
Just three minutes later, Mohammed Abdelrahman extended Sudan’s advantage, beating Mohammed Salisu and driving the ball into the net.
The match ended 2-0 in favor of Sudan, who now climb to seven points in Group F, while Ghana remains stuck on two points, putting their AFCON 2025 qualification hopes in serious jeopardy.
