Elmina Sharks FC beat Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC to hand them their second defeat in 15 games this season in the Ghana Premier League
The bottom placed Club needed a win badly to at least have a surviving chance and did that to perfection with a 2-1 comeback win at home.
Dickson Afoakwa scored the opening goal of the match to put the visitors 1-0 up after the 39th minute mark after tapping into empty net from close range after a great run and lay-off by Georges Mfegue.
Former Skyy FC talisman, Ebenezer Adukwaw restored parity for the the home team two minutes to go into the break.
The home team was awarded what seemed a controversial penalty which was earlier missed by Alhaji Mustapha.
The attacker got another chance to make amends after Kotoko goalie Ibrahim Danlad was adjudged to have come off his lines before the kick was taken – this time Mustapha slotted the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-1.
Kotoko captain newly restored parity deep in the second half but the host goalkeepers produced a masterclass save to deny the defender.
Kotoko won a spot kick themselves deep into additional time when Mfegue’s ball hit a defender of Sharks hand in the box – the Cameroonian stepped up but his shot was was saved and Kotoko suffered their second defeat in the Ghana Premier League season.
