Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has showered praise on Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo following his outstanding display in the Cherries’ 2-0 victory over Everton in the FA Cup fourth round.
Semenyo played the entire 90 minutes at Goodison Park, delivering a commanding performance that helped Bournemouth secure their spot in the next round. The Black Stars forward was instrumental in the win, completing 17 of 27 passes, registering two shots on target, and winning six out of 13 ground duels. His all-around play also saw him make an interception, two tackles, and six clearances, earning him the Man of the Match award.
Speaking after the game, Iraola expressed his delight with Semenyo’s impressive form and impact on the team.
“Antoine [Semenyo] is in a lovely moment, he is full of confidence, his finishing, both legs… even today [against Everton], he went over the line defensively,” Iraola told the media.
The Spanish coach also highlighted the strong partnership between Semenyo and Milos Kerkez on the left flank.
“I think he is associating very well with Milos [Kerkez] in that left side, and I am happy. I know we will try to keep him there, and as long as he can continue to do the things that he is doing, he is going to be very valuable for us,” he added.
Everton captain James Tarkowski had a forgettable afternoon, conceding a first-half penalty before making a costly error that led to Bournemouth’s second goal.
Semenyo, who had inspired Bournemouth’s comeback victory at Goodison Park in August 2024, once again proved decisive. He won and converted a penalty in the 22nd minute, giving the visitors the lead.
Bournemouth doubled their advantage before halftime when Daniel Jebbison capitalized on Tarkowski’s defensive blunder to slot home the second goal. With no further goals in the game, the Cherries sealed their place in the FA Cup fifth round.
The 25-year-old Ghanaian forward has been in scintillating form for Bournemouth this season, scoring nine goals and providing four assists in 26 appearances across all competitions.
In the FA Cup, Semenyo has already registered two goals and one assist in just two matches, further cementing his importance to Iraola’s side.
