Ghana will play Brazil in France to limit the amount of travel on European-based players. The number of games for European-based players could reach up to the 60s and 70s this season. Reducing travel will help players based in European leagues preserve their bodies for the November and December World Cup.
Ghana missed the 2018 World Cup in Russia but have qualified for this year’s event in Qatar. The Black Stars have a very difficult group that includes Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea. The group has been labelled as a Group of Death by some football pundits in the build-up to the World Cup 2022.
The 2022 tournament is the fourth World Cup Ghana have qualified for all time. The Black Stars previously qualified for the World Cup on three consecutive occasions in 2006, 2010, and 2014. In two of those three tournaments, Ghana reached the knockout stage.
The 2010 World Cup saw Ghana reach the quarterfinals where a controversial match with Uruguay took place. Ghana will have the chance to play Uruguay in the group stage of this year’s tournament.
