Kpando Heart of Lions gained promotion to the Ghana Premier League next season with just seven games to spare in the Access Bank Division One Zone One League.
Lions were a regular presence in the country’s top flight and had some of the finest footballers, such as Gladson Awako, John Boye, Gilbert Fiamenyo, Stephen Ahorlu, 2006 World Cup star Haminu Dramani, Sadat Bukari, Dominic Adiyiah, Togolese Komlan Amewou, and many others.
After the 2015 season, the team was relegated from the elite league with 40 points and a win-lose-draw record of 11-17-12, respectively. The other teams that were relegated were Brong Ahafo United and Accra Great Olympics, who are currently in the top-flight.
Despite many attempts to return to the top flight, Lions have finally secure promotion into the Ghana Premier League, having been the champions of the Division One League Zone 3.
Heart of Lions currently lead the Zone 3 standings with 56 points from 24 games, 16 points ahead of second-placed Vision FC with just seven games remaining in the season.
Vision FC and Samper FI who were close to Lions lost their respective games against Attram de Visser and Na God FC which means Lions are the champions of Zone 3.
Lions take on Golden Kicks at the Tema Stadium on Monday afternoon.
