English-Ghanaian midfielder Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu scored as Salford City recorded a convincing 4-1 victory over Oldham Athletic in League Two.
Salford City made a fast start and took the lead after just five minutes, with Luke Molyneux finishing from Joe Powell’s assist.
The visitors doubled their advantage in the 19th minute when Kelly N’Mai found the back of the net.
Oldham Athletic responded quickly, pulling a goal back two minutes later through Calum Kavanagh after Keenan Appiah-Forson created the opportunity.
Salford maintained their composure and went into the break with a 2-1 lead.
Sarpong-Wiredu then extended Salford’s advantage in the 57th minute, scoring from a pass by Molyneux to make it 3-1.
The home side struggled to mount another comeback as Salford remained in control.
Salford completed the emphatic victory in the 81st minute when Adebola Oluwo converted Luke Garbutt’s delivery to make it 4-1.
Molyneux played a major role in the victory, scoring once and providing two assists, while also earning the Player of the Match award.
The victory continues Sarpong-Wiredu’s involvement in Salford City’s campaign, with the midfielder having featured in seven league matches this season and scored once.
Salford City will next face Fleetwood on October 3 in their next League Two fixture.
