CAF have appointed 38-year old South African referee, Victor Gomes for the Black Stars game against Gabon in the cliffhanger clash on Friday evening despite the brouhaha between SAFA and GFA.
The best referee in South Africa, Gomes has been appointed by CAF to officiate Ghana’s crucial game despite the fuss and exchange of words between South Africa FA and Ghana FA following a World Cup Qualifier between the two countries.
He officiated Ghana’s game against Tunisia in the round of 16 of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament and disallowed Andre Ayew’s goal which could’ve seen the Black Stars through to the next stage of the competition.
South Africa Football Association and the Ghana Football Association had a war of words after the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in Cape Coast in November, a game the South Africans believed to have been cheated with a penalty they described as cheap.
Many Ghanaians are are worried about his appointment as they believe the referee could mastermind the Black Stars defeat against the Panthers of Gabon.
Ghana could be out of the competition if they lose to a highly competitive and motivated Gabonese team on Friday.
