African powerhouse Al Ahly has selected the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo as the venue for their inaugural match in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League against Ghanaian champions Medeama SC later this month.
As the record 11-time winners of the competition, Al Ahly aims for a strong start to assert their intentions of defending the title. On the other hand, Medeama SC, making their debut in the tournament’s money zone, seeks to make a lasting impression.
Medeama SC has chosen the Baba Yara Stadium as their home ground for the Champions League after the rejection of the Cape Coast Stadium and while their newly-built TNA Park is still under construction.
The Al Salam Stadium, with a capacity of 30,000, was constructed in 2009 as part of the venues for the U-20 FIFA World Cup, won by Ghana. Located in Cairo, Egypt, it has been a host for various CAF inter-club competition matches and was also used during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The match between Al Ahly and Medeama SC is scheduled for November 25, 2023.
