Asec Mimosas and Esperance Tunis played another goalless draw in the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals in Abidjan on Saturday night.

When the draw was made, many thought it was going to be a walk in the park for Esperance as they were better on paper than the Ivorians but Asec in the two legs proved that they are no mere pushovers.

Asec Mimosas’ back four of Zadi, Tra Bi, Coulibaly and Zouzou have been solid in the two legs as they made sure that Yan Sasse, Teka and Rodrigues were quiet in both games.

Chances creation were few in the second leg compared to the first as Asec tightened up their defence and midfield to limit the danger posed by the Tunisians.

After a goalless draw in the 90 minutes, a penalty shootout was required with Esperance triumphing 4-2 against the Ivorians.

Christian Kouame Koffi and Saliffou Diarrassouba missed the penalties for Asec. Mofosse Karidoula and Serge Pokou scored the two penalties for the home team.

Meriah, Bouchniba, Teka and Amine Tougai all scored Esperance’s four penalties to secure a semi-final place for the Tunisian giants.

Asec Mimosas’ fans were disappointed to see their team eliminated at their own backyard.

Esperance will play against Sundowns in the semi-finals.
