Highly-rated youngster, Isaac Oppong, scored late into the game as Asante Kotoko beat RC Kadiogo in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round.
Oppong, who was out of action for the majority of last season due to injury, left it late at the Kerekou Stadium in Cotonou, Benin, on Monday to give Kotoko a 1-0 win.
The Ghanaian champions despite a shaky start to the game displayed their authority in the game as they piled pressure on the Burkina Faso team in the second half of the game.
Newly-signed forward, Steven Mukwala had opportunities to give Kotoko the lead but the player’s efforts were far from threatening the opposition.
However, with just minutes away from home, Oppog stole the headlines as he found the back of the net to give Kotoko the necessary win.
The Porcupine Warriors will look to complete the job when both teams meet at the Baba Yara Stadium for the second leg.
