Medeama SC’s head coach, Evans Adotey, has disclosed that his team won’t adopt specific tactics to counter Al Ahly’s star player, Percy Tau, in their upcoming CAF Champions League clash on Saturday.
Instead, Adotey plans for a comprehensive strategy to neutralize Al Ahly’s offensive threats.
While acknowledging Tau’s exceptional form with four goals in five games, Adotey believes solely focusing on him would expose vulnerabilities against other players. He emphasized his responsibility to devise a strategy preventing Al Ahly from scoring.
“I have to be cautious tomorrow because Al Ahly will come all out in an attacking fashion,” he said. “It’s also my responsibility as a coach to ensure a strategy is mapped to deny them or to prevent them from scoring.”
Adotey stressed the importance of achieving a balance between defense and offense, emphasizing a combined approach. “I am not coming to play defense,” he asserted. “We’re combining the two – defending to attack and attacking to defend.”
Having progressed by defeating Remo Stars and Horoya AC in the preliminary rounds, Medeama faces the biggest fixture in their history against the 10-time CAF Champions League winners, Al Ahly.
Despite the challenge, Medeama remains confident and is determined to showcase their capabilities in Cairo.
