Newly crowned Moroccan champions RS Berkane did the job in the first leg when they crushed the Algerian side Constantine. RS Berkane defeated Constantine 4-0 to put the tie 100 per cent beyond the Algerians.
Heading into the second leg, there was no hope of come comeback because the Moroccans are far stronger than their Algerian opponents.
Constantine’s complete dominance in the first half did not result in a goal. After enjoying 70 per cent possession, the Moroccans had five shots in total but only one on target. The Moroccans felt relaxed but were so solid defensively after failing to register a single shot.
The second half commenced with the same intensity from Constantine, resulting in an early goal for them. Abdennour Belhocini’s 47th-minute strike put the host in front. With three more goals to stand a chance of qualifying, Constantine continued giving Berkane all the pressure, but could not utilise their numerous chances. Constantine could score at least two more from the 12 shots in the second half, but they were so blunt in attack. The 1-0 defeat was a good score line for Berkane as it has qualified them for the finals.
It will be Berkane’s second finals in the Confederation Cup in the last two season having lost to Zamalek last season. Berkane will face Tanzanian side Simba SC in the finals with fireworks expected in both legs.
