CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals| Simba secures draw at Stellenbosch to book final slot

Tanzanian side Simba SC drew a goalless result at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria against Stellenbosch to book a ticket to the finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Fadlu Davids’ side was determined to get past the finish line after being nervous in both halves of the game.

Simba SC narrowly defeated the South Africans 1-0 in the first leg and had a slim advantage heading towards the second leg. Stellenbosch’s victory in Cairo against Zamalek in the quarter-finals always reminded Simba how dangerous they could be on any day.

Simba was a bit dominated but looked well organised defensively as the back four of Kapombe, Karaboue, Hamza, and Hussein were up to the task anytime the need arose.

The first half ended with the home side having six shots in total, with two on target, compared to the visitors’ three with one on target.

Stellenbosch’s strike in the second half by Genino Palace was caned by VAR. The South Africans looked much better in the second half after threatening Simba, severally, for the coveted goal. With seven shots in the second half, Stellenbosch failed to score from the two on target.

Simba knew a goalless draw was going to be enough and, hence, decided to protect their 1-0 aggregate lead.

It is the Tanzanian club’s second-ever finals in any club competition on the continent after reaching the finals of the CAF Cup in 1993 when they lost 2-0 on aggregate to Ivorian side Stella Club d’Adjame.
