Asante Kotoko Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, has assured fans that the club will be fully prepared for their 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup campaign as they gear up to face Nigerian side Kwara United in the first preliminary round.
The first leg will be played at Kotoko’s home ground between September 19 and 21, with the return fixture in Nigeria scheduled from September 26 to 28.
Speaking to Asempa FM ahead of the tie, Duku stressed that the team must approach the encounter with the utmost seriousness to avoid any potential upset.
“Playing in Africa is like going to war, so you must be ready for any opponent. On paper, people might think this is a done deal for Asante Kotoko, but it is not so,” he said. “Kwara United come from a strong footballing nation, and qualifying for the Confederation Cup means they have made significant investments. You cannot underestimate them.”
Duku further emphasised that Kotoko’s focus must remain firmly on Kwara United before thinking ahead to a potential second-round meeting with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.
“It is up to Asante Kotoko to ensure they get adequate preparation to avoid any embarrassment. We must focus on Kwara United and make sure we qualify for the next round before thinking about Wydad,” he added.
As part of their preparations, Kotoko are currently in Cape Coast for the second phase of their pre-season. Later this month, they will compete in the 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament in Accra as they fine-tune their squad for the continental challenge.
