CAF President Patrice Motsepe paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama at the Flagstaff House in Accra today, as part of his working visit to Ghana for major football-related activities.

Motsepe, who touched down earlier in the morning to a warm reception at the Kotoka International Airport, was welcomed by Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku along with excited football supporters.

The CAF President’s visit highlights the organization’s renewed dedication to youth empowerment and football development across the African continent.

During their meeting, President Mahama and Motsepe discussed key strategies to strengthen football structures both in Ghana and throughout Africa. A major part of their conversation focused on how football can be used as a driving force for social development, education, and creating job opportunities for young people.

Motsepe, a South African billionaire and strong supporter of football at the grassroots level, reaffirmed CAF’s commitment to supporting projects like the African Schools Football Championship. He is expected to attend the finals of this important youth tournament during his stay in Ghana.

His visit comes just before the CAF Executive Committee meeting scheduled to take place in Accra, where important leadership appointments will be finalized following the recent elections.

Motsepe’s engagement with President Mahama also reflects CAF’s broader vision to work closely with African governments in using football as a tool to advance national development goals.

For Ghana, the meeting presents a valuable chance to deepen relations with CAF, especially as GFA President Kurt Okraku is set to be promoted to one of CAF’s Vice-President positions.

Overall, Motsepe’s visit signals a strong and growing momentum behind using football not just as a game, but as a powerful force for shaping Africa’s future.
