Patrice Motsepe has stated that the Confederation of African Football will fully respect and implement the final decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport regarding the disputed AFCON 2025 final.
Motsepe defended CAF’s Appeals Board ruling, which overturned Senegal’s victory and awarded a 3-0 win to Morocco, but emphasized that the governing body remains committed to abiding by the outcome of the ongoing legal process.
The final initially ended in a 1-0 win for Senegal after extra time, but the match was marred by controversy following a late penalty decision in favour of Morocco. The situation escalated when Senegal’s players briefly walked off the pitch in protest.
Following an appeal by Morocco’s football authorities, CAF ruled that Senegal had forfeited the match, a decision that has sparked widespread debate across the continent and led to a formal case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The controversy has further deepened challenges within CAF, especially after the resignation of former General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba amid concerns over governance and decision-making.
CAF is now awaiting the ruling from CAS, with the outcome expected to have major implications for the credibility of the competition and the leadership of African football.
