DAY 2 REPORT
Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa’s 2-1 victory over the defending champions has propelled them to the top of Group B of the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League in Ivory Coast.
At the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro, Najat Badri puts ASFAR in the lead ahead of the half time. Apem Darkoa Ladies fought gallantly and won by 2-1.
Comfort Yebah won the woman of the Match with a goal and also forced ASFAR to score an own goal in the second half helping Ampem Darkoa top Group B after MD2. The results come as a surprise since ASFAR won the last edition and were heavily fancied here to defeat Ampem Darkoa.
In the other game of Group B, the second half saw two goals with one each from both sides. AS Mandé captain Fatoumata Diarra drove her team level with a beautiful left-foot strike in the 71st minute after Elena Obono opened the scoring with a penalty in the 66th minute for Huracanes. AS Mande finished with 10 women after Fatoumata Karentao was red-carded in the 81st minute. With a numerical advantage, Hurricane could not find the winner and the game ended in a draw, 1-1.
Second-round matches of the group stages continue on Wednesday at Korhogo with Athletico Abidjan locking horns against JKT Queens of Tanzania at 5 pm. In the same group, Mamelodi Sundowns will play against Sporting Casablanca at 8 pm.
