CAF’s indecisiveness continues: “FIFA will decide when the next AFCON will be played” – Dr Motsepe

At the 74th FIFA Congress in Thailand, all things concerning football were discussed including the announcement of the winner of the bid for hosting the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The 2025 AFCON is still officially not decided when the tournament kicks off in Morocco. It was initially planned to take place in July 2025 but due to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, the plan was abandoned. The tournament is still yet to have a kick-off date.

The indecisiveness in CAF is worrisome. The governing body of African football has been lacking the balls to make drastic decisions as they always want FIFA to decide for them.

During the FIFA Congress in Thailand, one FIFA member state President confirmed that DR Patrice Motsepe was asked when the 2025 AFCON will take place and he revealed that it will depend on FIFA.

“FIFA will decide when it will take place,” said Motsepe when asked about the exact date for the AFCON 2025.

Sportsworldghana.com reported earlier in the week that the 2025 AFCON is scheduled to be played in December 2025 but it seems CAF are not even aware. The Confederation of African Football is expecting the world governing body of football, FIFA to decide.

It’s very surprising to see that a Confederation consisting of 54 states can’t make decisions for themselves but rather rely on FIFA.

It has been reported in many tabloids that CAF is planning to ditch the prestigious CAF Confederation Cup and replace it with the African Football League.

The Europeans never accepted the European Super League because they thought it would rock the foundations of their football. In Africa, FIFA has made us believe that it is better than our dear Confederation Cup which is making unknown clubs like Dreams FC, Abu Salim,  Shekukhune and Academica Lobito recognised.

Why do u even in the first place handpick football clubs to compete? They should be competing based on merits.

Africa’s football authorities indecisiveness has been a perennial problem and it rubberstamps how inferior our football is.

CAF must sit up and behave like a proper father who has full control of his home. CAF is expected to make an announcement very soon concerning the dates for the 2025 AFCON to be played in Morocco
