The Association of Amateur Football Clubs of Cameroon (ACFAC) has called for an investigation into Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) president Samuel Eto’o over allegations linked to a payment from the Russian Football Union.
The amateur clubs’ body says it will also file a lawsuit against the former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker in Cameroon, while pursuing a separate legal complaint against the Russian Football Union in Russia.
The allegations stem from a friendly between Cameroon and Russia in October 2023.
According to ACFAC, the Russian Football Union breached the terms of its agreement with Fecafoot by transferring about 567,000 euros (£490,000/$654,000) into a bank account that allegedly did not belong to the Cameroonian federation.
ACFAC claims the payment was improperly received and has urged authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the transaction.
Eto’o, who has led Fecafoot since 2021, has not publicly responded to the latest allegations.
The 45-year-old has faced several controversies during his time in office, although he has continued to enjoy backing from sections of African football’s leadership.
Last month, Eto’o publicly defended FIFA president Gianni Infantino, insisting he “hasn’t done anything wrong” amid growing calls for the world football chief to step down over a controversial World Cup sell-off plan.
