Ghana are set to retain Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars, with the Portuguese tactician reportedly on the verge of signing a new contract with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The 73-year-old, who was appointed in April on a short-term contract following the departure of Otto Addo, impressed by guiding Ghana to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite having only a few weeks to prepare the team.
Negotiations over a contract extension had stalled after the World Cup due to outstanding payments owed to Queiroz and his technical staff. However, the GFA, with support from the Ministry of Sports, has reportedly settled those financial obligations, removing a major obstacle in talks.
With the payment issue resolved, discussions between both parties have advanced significantly, and an agreement is now believed to be close.
Should the deal be completed, Queiroz will remain in charge for Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, beginning with a crucial away clash against Ivory Coast on September 24 in Bouaké before the Black Stars host The Gambia three days later at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The GFA is keen to maintain continuity after Ghana’s encouraging World Cup performances, with Queiroz expected to lead the team’s bid to return to the AFCON after missing out on the previous tournament in Morocco.
